Rutherford County is the fifth most populous county in Tennessee. It was established in 1803 out of Davidson, Williamson, and Wilson counties. It was named after General Griffith Rutherford. Currently, the county is part of the Nashville-Davidson–Murfreesboro–Franklin Metropolitan Area. In 2014, the county had 288,906, over 24,000 inhabitants more than in the 2010 census.
